Questo tipo di lente, che prende il suo nome dall’omonimo inventore, nacque per l’uso specifico della navigazione: posta sui fari, grazie a un ingombro ridotto, estendeva notevolmente il raggio di luce delle imbarcazioni.

 

Posta sul volto di personaggi legati al mondo della cultura rappresenta la forza della propagazione delle idee, la lungimiranza di uno sguardo creativo.

L'irriconoscibilità del volto noto attraverso la distorsione è anche affrancamento da un'immagine univoca, monolitica, pubblicitaria.

Mobilità dei tratti somatici come corrispondenza del continuo trasformarsi dell'identità; ritratto non più come immagine funerea nella sua fissità, ma come dinamismo di molteplici possibilità nella costruzione del sé.

This specific kind of lens tooks its name from its inventor, and it was employed in the navigation field: taking up a minimum amount of space and put on ship's lamps  it was able to extend further the beam of light. 

 

Used in portraying intellectuals and artists it metaphorically represents the strenght of ideas' propagation, the farsightedness of creative looks.

The unrecognisability of a well-known face produced by the lens' distorsion leads also to the liberation from a unique, monolithic, advertising image of the self.

The mobility of somatic features corresponds to the continue evolution of identity. Portrait is no longer a funereal image based on its steadiness, but finally represents the dynamism generated from the subjectivity building process and its numerous combinations.
